Young Whun Kim is a pianist, collaborative artist, and educator based in St. Louis, Missouri. He currently serves as Teacher of Applied Music at Washington University in St. Louis and as a Collaborative Pianist at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL). He is also an active substitute keyboardist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and regularly performs with Ariel Concert Series and Chamber Project Saint Louis.

As both a soloist and collaborative pianist, Mr. Kim has performed extensively throughout the United States. Career highlights include a concerto appearance with the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, as well as guest artist performances and masterclasses at institutions including Ball State University, Grand Valley State University, Butler University, and DePaul University.

Mr. Kim received his Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University and his Master of Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He is currently completing the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in Piano Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, where he was the winner of the UIUC Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.

With more than twenty years of teaching experience, Mr. Kim combines the perspectives of an active performer and dedicated educator. His lessons emphasize technical excellence, artistic expression, thoughtful musicianship, and independent musical thinking.

Committed to supporting the musical community, Mr. Kim is an active member of MTNA, MMTA, SLAMTA, and the American Federation of Musicians. He also serves regularly as an adjudicator for regional piano competitions and festivals, in addition to judging competitions such as the SEJONG Music Competition and the Midwest National Chamber Music Competition.
